Fraud Committee inquiry: Victims’ Commissioner to give evidence

Wednesday 27 April 2022

At 9.15am on Thursday 28 April 2022, the Lords Committee on the Fraud Act 2006 and Digital Fraud will take evidence from the Victims’ Commissioner Dame Vera Baird QC.

She will be joined by Pauline Smith, Director of Action Fraud and Neil Postins, Service Delivery Manager at the National Economic Crime Victim Care Unit.

This evidence session will be streamed live on Parliament TV.

Questions the committee is likely to cover in this session include:

  • Who is most susceptible to falling victim to digital fraud? What characteristics, behaviours or traits might put a person at higher risk of becoming a victim?
  • Why might fraud victims be more reluctant or take longer to report their experience than victims of other crimes?
  • Why does fraud appear to be considered as such a low priority by police forces and the Government given the impact on victims?
  • What support do fraud victims need to help them to recover from their experience of crime and how can they access this support?
  • What should be included in the forthcoming Victims’ Bill to support victims of fraud?
