Former security and defence heads to be quizzed by Lords Committee as part of its inquiry into UK-EU reset

Former senior security and defence figures will be quizzed by the cross-party Lords European Affairs Committee as part of its ongoing inquiry into the UK-EU reset.
On Tuesday 4 March at 4:00pm, the Committee will take evidence from:
- Lord Peach, former Chief of the Defence Staff and former Chairman of the Military Committee of NATO
- Lord Sedwill, former National Security Advisor and Cabinet Secretary
At 5:00pm, it will hear from:
- Vice Admiral (Retd) Duncan Potts, former Operational Commander of EU Operation ATALANTA
- Rear Admiral (Retd) Bruce Williams, former Deputy Director General of the EU Military Staff
Areas of questioning are likely to include:
- The objectives of the UK-EU reset in the defence and security field
- What should be in the UK-EU security pact that the Government is seeking
- The EU’s current arrangements for the involvement of non-Member States in defence and security activities
- The impact on the UK-EU reset of the new US Administration’s European security policies
- Whether the drive to see increased European defence capabilities and spending might lead to the development of new structures for UK involvement with the EU
- The relationship between potential closer UK-EU defence and security cooperation and NATO
The session will take place in Committee Room 3 at the Houses of Parliament and can be watched live, or later, on Parliament TV.
