Are the voices of Northern Ireland businesses being heard? Lords Committee to examine

At 11.30am on Wednesday 26 March the House of Lords Northern Ireland Scrutiny Committee will continue its new inquiry into Strengthening Northern Ireland’s voice in the context of the Windsor Framework hearing from a panel of business representatives.
The Committee will hear from:

- Neil Johnston, Director at Northern Ireland Retail Consortium
- Roger Pollen, Head of FSB NI at The Federation of Small Businesses
The evidence session will take place in Committee Room 2, Palace of Westminster and will be available to watch on Parliament TV.
The Committee has also launched a call for written evidence inviting individuals and organisations to submit written submissions by 5pm on Wednesday 30 April.
The Committee is expected to ask the panel questions on:
- The extent to which the voices of Northern Ireland businesses are currently being heard in the context of the Windsor Framework
- The opportunities available for Northern Ireland business stakeholders to engage with the UK and the EU under the Windsor Framework
- How clear it is for Northern Ireland business stakeholders to engage with the structures which govern the Windsor Framework
- The extent businesses in Northern Ireland are experiencing increased legal requirements in relation to trade with the EU and GB
- The level of direct engagement between the European Commission and business stakeholders
- Assessment of the measures announced in the ‘Safeguarding the Union’ command paper such as the UK East-West Council, Intertrade UK and the Independent Monitoring Panel
- The effectiveness of the Stormont Brake and the applicability motion procedure
- The role and function of the Northern Ireland Assembly’s Windsor Framework Democratic Scrutiny Committee
