Economic Affairs Committee to kick off new ageing inquiry with its first evidence session

At 3pm today, the House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee will be holding its first evidence session as part of its new inquiry on the impact of ageing on the UK economy.
The committee will hear evidence from Professor Sarah Harper, Director of the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing.
This evidence session, which is open to the public, will be held in Committee Room 2 of the House of Lords. It will also be streamed live and on demand on Parliament TV.
Topics the committee is likely to cover in this session include:
- Current demographic trends with respect to ageing.
- Policies aimed at raising the birth rate.
- The role of immigration in offsetting or disguising the ageing of the UK’s population.
- Findings of the Foresight review.
- Productivity changes as workers age.
- Policies the Government should adopt to incentivise the private sector to play its part in preparing for an ageing society.
