Lords concludes energy grid inquiry by hearing from energy Minister Michael Shanks MP

The House of Lords Industry and Regulators Committee concludes its inquiry into the energy grid and grid connections by hearing from Michael Shanks MP, Minister at the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero.

The session will run from 10.30am on Tuesday 25 March and can be followed live or afterwards on Parliament TV or in person in Committee Room 4, Palace of Westminster.


Possible topics include:

  • the delivery of energy network infrastructure to meet the clean power target;
  • the roles and responsibilities of Ofgem and NESO in relation to energy networks;
  • possible incentives to encourage generation and energy demand to locate closer to one another;
  • the Government’s Strategy and Policy Statement (SPS);
  • Regional Energy Strategic Plans;
  • resourcing for local planning authorities;
  • proposals to reform the connections queue;
  • prioritising grid connections for strategic industries.

Emily Bourne, Director, Energy Systems & Networks, Department for Energy Security and Net Zero will also be providing evidence.
