Satellite communication experts to be quizzed by Lords Committee on UK Space Engagement

Leading figures in the satellite communications industry will appear before a cross-party Lords Committee.

The latest evidence session of the House of Lords UK Engagement with Space Committee will take place from 3.35pm on Monday 31 March in Committee Room 4, Palace of Westminster, and can be watched live, or later, on Parliament TV.

Questions are likely to focus on:

  • How technological developments in AI and quantum may affect the satellite communications sector
  • The role of satellite communications and earth observation technology for national security and resilience
  • The role of regulation in the space sector
  • Whether the government’s investment in OneWeb has provided value for money
  • The value of earth observation technology for climate science
  • How the relationship between academia and business works in the space sector

The Committee will hear first from:

  • Joanna Darlington, Chief Communications Officer & Executive Committee Member at Eutelsat OneWeb
  • Simon Hill, Chief Technical Officer at Excelerate Technology Group

At 4:35pm, it will take evidence from:

  • Richard Blain, Founder & Chairman at Earth-i Ltd
  • Geoff Busswell, Vice President of Business Growth at Telespazio
  • John Remedios, Director, The National Centre for Earth Observation
