Social mobility policy committee opens its inquiry

The House of Lords Social Mobility Policy Committee opens its inquiry on Thursday 13 March by hearing from the Social Mobility Commission.
The special inquiry committee was appointed to consider how educational and work opportunities could be better integrated to improve social mobility in the UK.
The session begins at 10am and can be watched live or afterwards on Parliament TV.
Giving evidence will be:
- Alun Francis OBE, Chair, Social Mobility Commission;
- Resham Kotecha,Deputy Chair, Social Mobility Commission;
- Rob Wilson, Deputy Chair, Social Mobility Commission.
Members are expected to ask questions on:
- defining and measuring social mobility;
- the importance of geographical approaches to improving access to educational and job opportunities;
- the role of education in reducing barriers to social mobility;
- the barriers to social mobility for young people not in education, employment or training (NEETs);
- how local partnerships and educational programmes can support NEETs.
