UK-Ukraine 100 Year Partnership evidence sessions

The House of Lords International Agreements Committee will be holding two oral evidence sessions this week as part of its short inquiry into the One Hundred Year Partnership Agreement between the UK and Ukraine.
Giving evidence at 5pm on Tuesday 11 March will be:
- Hanna Hopko, Co-Founder, International Center for Ukrainian Victory
- Simon Smith, Chairman, Steering Committee, Ukraine Forum, Russia and Eurasia Programme, Chatham House
- Professor David J Betz, Professor of War in the Modern World, King's College London
- Nick Childs, Senior Fellow for Naval Forces and Maritime Security, International Institute for Strategic Studies
Topics the Committee is likely to cover include:
- The value and purpose of this Agreement, and how the wider relationship is expected to change as a result of the Partnership
- The significance of this Agreement for Ukraine, in particular in relation to defence capabilities
- The potential implications of the Agreement in relation to the UK’s national interest
- The proposed maritime partnership, and any potential opportunities and challenges
- The Government’s intention to combat foreign information manipulation and interference, and how this commitment will be implemented.
Giving evidence at 12:45pm on Wednesday 12 March will be:
- Stephen Doughty MP, Minister for Europe, North America and Overseas Territories, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office
Topics the Committee is likely to cover include:
- The main priorities of the Partnership and how the Agreement reflects the UK’s national interests
- The relationship between this Agreement and the 2024 security cooperation agreement with Ukraine
- The likelihood of Ukraine’s membership of NATO and steps the Government is taking to achieve this outcome
- The Government’s intention to hold Russia accountable for aggression against Ukraine
- How the Agreement relates to the wider issue of security guarantees for Ukraine.
