Are development corporations the best model for developing new and expanded settlements?

At 10.45am on Tuesday 6 May 2025, the House of Lords Built Environment Committee, as part of its inquiry on new towns and expanded settlements, will hear evidence from:
- David Lunts, Chief Executive of the Old Oak Park Royal Development Corporation (OPDC)
- Paul Richards, Chief Executive of the Stockport Mayoral Development Corporation.
This session, which is open to the public, will be held in Committee Room 3 of the House of Lords and streamed live on Parliament TV.
Topics likely to be covered in this session include:
- Different models of development corporation and the types of development for which they are suitable
- How the role of development corporations should intersect with that of central government
- The new powers and responsibilities given to development corporations in the Planning and Infrastructure Bill
- How development corporations should engage with the local authorities that they cover
The committee has published a call for evidence. This will remain open until 00:01 on 12 May 2025. The committee welcomes and encourages submissions from all sections of society.
