Legal charities to give evidence on the rule of law

The session will take place at 10.30am on Wednesday 7 May 2025 and can be followed live on Parliament TV.

Giving evidence will be:

  • Stephanie Needleman, Legal Director, JUSTICE 
  • Shameem Ahmad, CEO, the Public Law Project 

Topics the committee is likely to cover include:

  • The importance of the rule of law in people’s everyday lives 
  • How strong the rule of law is in the UK 
  • How effectively the Government is upholding the rule of law 
  • The role of civil society organisations in upholding the rule of law 
  • How public perceptions of the legal system and judiciary impact the rule of law 
  • To what extent the rule of law is a matter of culture and rhetoric, or actions.
