Crown Estate Bill completes passage through Parliament
5 March 2025
The Crown Estate Bill returned to the House of Lords for consideration of Commons amendments in 'ping pong', on Tuesday 4 March.
The Crown Estate Bill aims to widen the borrowing and investment powers of the Crown Estate to speed up the development of offshore wind projects, in collaboration with Great British Energy, and to deliver long-term financial returns to the taxpayer.
Consideration of amendments
The bill was considered by the House of Lords between 25 July and 18 November 2024 before passing to the House of Commons.
On Tuesday 4 March, members of the Lords considered changes (PDF) made to the bill by MPs in the Commons in a process known as parliamentary 'ping pong'.
Lords members agreed with Commons changes on disposal of the territorial seabed, salmon farms on the Crown Estate, and public funds.
