Members of the House of Lords begin to check and change the Armed Forces Commissioner Bill at committee stage on Wednesday 19 March.

The Armed Forces Commissioner Bill aims to establish, and confer functions on, the Armed Forces Commissioner, and abolish the office of Service Complaints Ombudsman.

Line by line checks

Day one of committee stage, the first chance for line by line examination of the bill, is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 19 March.

Three days of committee stage have been scheduled so far:

  • Wednesday 19 March
  • Monday 24 March
  • Wednesday 26 March*

(*schedule subject to change).

Proposed changes

Members speaking on day one of committee stage have put forward amendments to the bill on subjects including:

  • family members of deceased service personnel
  • welfare of service personnel
  • the Armed Forces Commissioner.
