Call for evidence launched by Committee looking into the Autism Act 2009

The Health and Social Care Select Committee will examine the current gambling landscape and the potential for harms caused by developments in gambling products in a one-off oral evidence session at 9.30am on Wednesday 2 April. 

The Welsh Affairs Committee has asked the UK and Welsh Governments for more detail on their plans to improve cross-border healthcare between England and Wales.

The Health and Social Care Select Committee will question senior figures from across the health sector on their views on the Government’s plans to abolish NHS England and merge it with the Department of Health and Social Care, in an evidence session at 9.30am on Wednesday 26 March.  

The Health and Social Care Committee is today (Friday 21 March) launching a new inquiry on the first 1000 days of life, the period from a child’s conception to age two - widely recognised as a critical period for development which fundamentally shapes long-term health, well-being, and life outcomes. 

Today the Government announced reforms to health and disability social security support when they published ‘Pathways to Work: Reforming Benefits and Support to Get Britain Working’. This has particularly focused on changes to incapacity and disability benefits as well as health assessments. The Government has said that the reforms will enable more people with chronic long term health conditions, or who are disabled, to return to and stay in work.

The Health and Social Care Committee will hold the final evidence session of its inquiry into the cost of inaction on adult social care reform, at 9.30am on Wednesday 19 March. 

The Health and Social Care Committee will next week take evidence from lived experience witnesses, health professionals and senior officials from NHS Trusts and Integrated Care Boards, as it continues its inquiry examining the provision of community mental health services (CMHS) for adults with severe mental health needs.

The Scottish Affairs Committee will question representatives from Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, and Glasgow City Council in the second session of its inquiry into Glasgow’s pilot Safer Drug Consumption Facility (SCDF). 

On Wednesday 26 February, the Health and Social Care Committee held a pre-appointment hearing for the Chair of NHS England with the Government’s preferred candidate for the role, Dr Penny Dash.
