MPs debated the tenth anniversary of the Iraq War in a general debate in the House of Commons on Thursday 13 June 2013

The motion for the debate was:

"That this House has considered the matter of the tenth anniversary of the Iraq War."

Caroline Lucas, Green Party MP for Brighton, Pavilion, moved the motion for debate.

The Backbench Business Committee received a representation for this debate from Caroline Lucas on 16 April 2013.

Debates

A debate is a formal discussion on a topic in the House of Commons or the House of Lords.

They are an opportunity for MPs to discuss government policy, proposed new laws and current issues.

Members take it in turns to speak on the subject concerned and the discussion is strictly controlled by a set of rules called the ‘Standing Orders’.

The Speaker chairs debates in the Chamber and ensures these rules are followed and order is maintained.
