UK Parliament hosts meeting of Speakers and Presiding Officers

The UK Parliament hosts the Standing Committee of the Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC), which takes place on 11-12 January 2017. 

The meeting of the Standing Committee of the CSPOC will focus on planning the content of the 2018 full conference. Full conferences take place every other year, and the last conference was held in Sabah Malaysia in January 2016.

Background:

CSPOC was created in 1969 to bring together the Speakers and Presiding Officers of the national parliaments of the independent sovereign states of the Commonwealth. CSPOC aims to maintain, foster, and encourage impartiality and fairness on the part of Speakers and Presiding Officers of Parliaments; promote knowledge and understanding of parliamentary democracy in its various forms; and develop parliamentary institutions.
