UK Bureau Statement on the UK-EU Parliamentary Partnership Assembly
The UK Delegation to the UK-EU Parliamentary Partnership Assembly was appointed by the Prime Minister on 12 December 2024. Following its first meeting the UK Bureau (Marsha de Cordova MP (Leader), Sarah Bool MP (Vice-Chair) and Lord Ricketts GCMG GCVO (Vice-Chair)) said:
“We welcome the re-establishment of the Assembly following the 2024 election.
“This is an opportunity to continue to build trust between European and UK Parliamentarians, and to work ambitiously to find common ground.
“We look forward to working with our European Parliament colleagues to create a shared strategic approach to enabling economic growth and addressing shared security threats.
“We are committed to giving full support to Ukraine, to an ambitious programme for energy security, and to working together to deliver the clean energy transition.
“We hope to find consensus on providing enhanced opportunities for young people and reducing barriers for small businesses, and touring artists.
“These common interests will guide our work as we prepare for the forthcoming meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly, which we hope will continue to strengthen the relationship between the UK and EU Parliaments.
“The Assembly also has an essential role to play in ensuring parliamentary scrutiny of the work of the Partnership Council and the implementation of the TCA. We are fully committed to working together with our counterparts to achieve this.”
