Response

A full breakdown of all expenses related to the Speaker’s travel and accommodations for the fiscal years 2022/2023 and 2023/2024:

In the first instance, please note that expenses incurred in the Speaker’s Office, including travel, are routinely published on our website for transparency purposes. Where costs were incurred in other currencies, the Speaker’s Office will convert them to British Pounds before publication. Owing to changing currency exchanges, some raw costs we hold may therefore differ from the converted costs published on our webpages.

1) Cost of flights (including class of travel)

This is information is held by the House of Commons. We hold the details requested for each trip by the Speaker and his staff in this time period (csv, 4KB).

2) Accommodation costs (per night and total)

Some information is held by the House of Commons on Accommodation costs (csv, 5KB). You will see that we hold details of the names of the hotel or venue used in each trip. However, we only hold some details of the cost per person per night.

3) Transportation costs (including chauffeur services)

This information is held by the House of Commons. Transportation costs (csv, 316B).

4) Any other related expenditures

Some information is held by the House of Commons. We hold details of meal costs (csv, 1KB) including the name of the restaurant and the total cost claimed for each visit. However, we do not hold a full breakdown of each bill as we do not record this information.

To be helpful, there was an additional trip to the Falklands in May 2022, however these costs were not covered by the House as it was organised and paid for (in full) by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and Falkland Islands Assembly, and we do not have access to the information they hold. If you would like to request any information from the FCDO, their contact details can be found on the Government’s website.
